The Airport Rail Situation at Ezeiza Airport

Unlike many major international hubs, Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE) is not connected to Buenos Aires by a direct train or subway line. There is no airport express train similar to Toronto’s UP Express, and the Buenos Aires Subte (metro) network does not reach the airport area.

As a result, rail travel from Ezeiza Airport to downtown Buenos Aires is only possible indirectly, by combining other transportation modes such as buses or shuttles with the city’s subway or commuter rail system.

Closest Rail & Subway Access Points

To reach Buenos Aires by rail or subway after landing at EZE Airport, passengers must first travel to the city using one of the following options:

  • Urban public buses (colectivos)
  • Manuel Tienda León shuttle buses
  • Taxi, remis, or private transfer

Once inside the city, connections to the subway (Subte) or commuter trains become available.

Using Bus + Subway from Ezeiza Airport

The most affordable rail-related option is combining an urban bus with the Buenos Aires subway system.

  • Bus Line 8E (Expreso por Autopista)
    • Departs from the bus stop opposite Car Park E1
    • Leads to Av. de Mayo & Perú (downtown Buenos Aires)
    • Travel time: 60–75 minutes (traffic dependent)

From Av. de Mayo & Perú, passengers can walk to Catedral Station and connect to:

  • Subway Line D – access to Palermo, Recoleta, and northern districts
  • Subway Line A – access to central and western areas

Although this option is inexpensive, it is time-consuming, involves multiple changes, and is not recommended for travelers with heavy luggage.

Using Tienda León Shuttle + Subway or Train

A faster and more comfortable alternative is the Manuel Tienda León shuttle service, which connects Ezeiza Airport with Terminal Madero in downtown Buenos Aires.

  • Operating hours: 06:00 am – 10:00 pm
  • Frequency: every 60 minutes
  • Travel time: approximately 50 minutes

From Terminal Madero, passengers can continue their journey using:

  • The Buenos Aires subway network (Subte)
  • Commuter trains from nearby stations
  • Taxi or remis services for door-to-door travel

Why There Is No Airport Train at EZE

Despite being Argentina’s largest airport, Ezeiza was built far from the city center and was never integrated into the metropolitan rail or subway network. Multiple rail connection projects have been proposed over the years, but none have been implemented to date.

For this reason, shuttles, taxis, and private transfers remain the fastest and most reliable ways to travel between Ezeiza Airport and Buenos Aires.
